Breast Implant Options
One of the most common questions asked at Finesse Plastic Surgery is, “What type of breast implant should I choose?” There are various factors that should be considered before you ultimately decide on the implant that will be best suited for your breast augmentation. To help make your decision a bit easier, here is some basic information about the types, shapes, and sizes of the implants that we offer.
Implant Types
Saline implants have been around since the 1960s and are comprised of an outer silicone shell filled with a sterile saltwater solution. These implants are inserted empty and then filled after they are inside the breast pocket. The saline solution inside these implants is safe for the body to be exposed to, which means that it presents no major complications in the case of a leak or rupture.
Some benefits of saline implants include:
- Smaller incisions for implant insertion
- Size of the implant can be adjusted after insertion
- Cost less than silicone implants
Silicone implants have also existed since the 1960s, although they were not initially as popular as saline implants. Consisting of an outer silicone shell that is pre-filled with a silicone gel, these implants have become more popular for breast augmentation.
Some benefits of silicone implants include:
- More natural feel
- Allow for more shape options
Implant Shapes
Round implants are the most common choice for breast augmentation. This shape of implant creates soft, proportionate breasts while providing a substantial amount of flexibility.
Teardrop implants are comprised of a silicone gel that is more cohesive than traditional silicone implants. This implant is designed to maintain position and make the breast look as natural as possible.
Implant Sizes
Breast implant volume is measured in cubic centimeters (cc’s) rather than cup size because a variety of factors, such as existing breast tissue, will determine the final breast size after augmentation.
