Breast Revision

While most patients are satisfied with the results of their breast augmentation, various factors such as weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and the natural aging process can alter the appearance of the breasts over time. Breast revision surgery can address these changes, improving the aesthetics and feel of your breasts years after your initial augmentation.

What to Expect During Your Consultation

At Finesse Plastic Surgery, we are committed to ensuring that our patients achieve the best possible results with their breast augmentation. While our goal is always to deliver long-term satisfaction, it’s important to understand that breast implant surgery may not be a one-time procedure. Implants are not designed to last a lifetime, and various factors may lead to the need for a revision surgery.

Common Reasons for Breast Revision Surgery

Implant Rupture Over Time:

Although breast implants are durable, they can rupture over time. According to data from Allergan/Natrelle, the 10-year rupture rate for silicone implants is relatively low, but it does occur. The good news is that Allergan/Natrelle silicone implants come with a lifetime warranty, providing peace of mind for patients.

Implant Displacement

Over time, implants may shift from their ideal position, often dropping too low or drifting to the side, which can be particularly noticeable when lying down. This can be corrected by replacing the implants and adjusting the implant "pocket." In some cases, we use graft materials to create an "internal bra," which helps secure the implants in their proper position.

Changes in Breast Symmetry

Despite our best efforts to achieve symmetry during the initial implant placement, breasts can change over time due to factors like weight loss, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. When this occurs, we can enhance symmetry by adjusting the implants, performing fat grafting, or using breast lift procedures to create a more balanced appearance.

Capsular Contracture

Capsular contracture is a condition where the scar tissue that naturally forms around all breast implants begins to tighten, leading to hardening of the breast and potential discomfort. The 10-year data from Allergan/Natrelle provides insight into the incidence rate of this condition. If capsular contracture occurs, we can treat it by replacing the implants and releasing or removing the scar tissue, which helps restore a more natural look and feel to the breasts. Additionally, each implant company offers a warranty program that covers capsular contracture, offering further protection.

Desire for Size Change

As time passes, some patients may feel that their implants are either too small or too large. Increasing implant size is typically a straightforward procedure that can often be completed in less than an hour, with minimal discomfort and a quick return to normal activities. However, decreasing implant size may require a breast lift to remove excess skin, similar to how a tailor would adjust a dress after weight loss.

At Finesse Plastic Surgery, our focus is on providing you with the highest level of care, both during your initial surgery and in any follow-up procedures that may be needed. We believe in educating our patients about what to expect, so they feel empowered and confident throughout their aesthetic journey.

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

One of the top reasons that patients choose our practice is the before and after gallery on our website and our Instagram accounts (@finesseplasticsurgery, @justinwestmd). We encourage you to take some time and go through our photos. We try to show a range of different body types and implant sizes so that our new patients can find a “before” photo that has a similar build and an “after” photo that best represents their goals. During your consultation we will review the photos you have chosen as your “wish pics” and develop a customized treatment plan to help you achieve your goals.
