Your Rights as a Patient in California

In accordance with California Health & Safety Code Section 70707

At Finesse Plastic Surgery, we are committed to providing you with the highest quality of care while respecting your rights as a patient. The following Patient Bill of Rights is provided in accordance with California law and applies to all patients receiving care at our practice.

Right to Informed Consent

You have the right to receive information about your condition and proposed treatment in terms you can understand, and to participate in decisions about your care.

  • Receive complete information about your diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis in language you understand
  • Participate actively in decisions about your care
  • Refuse recommended treatment or procedures to the extent permitted by law
  • Be informed of the medical consequences of refusing recommended treatment
  • Ask questions and receive clear answers about any aspect of your care

Right to Privacy and Confidentiality

You have the right to have your personal privacy respected and your medical information kept confidential.

  • Have your medical records treated as confidential except as required by law
  • Expect all communications and records pertaining to your care to be treated as confidential
  • Receive care in a private setting where you can discuss sensitive matters
  • Have only those directly involved in your care have access to your medical records
  • Approve or refuse the release of your medical records to any individual except as required by law

Right to Respect and Dignity

You have the right to be treated with respect, consideration, and dignity.

  • Be treated with courtesy and respect at all times
  • Receive care in a safe environment free from abuse or harassment
  • Have your cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, and personal values respected
  • Be addressed by your proper name and not be subjected to discrimination
  • Have a family member or representative of your choice be present during examinations and treatment when appropriate

Right to Access Your Medical Records

You have the right to obtain copies of your medical records in accordance with California law.

  • Inspect and obtain copies of your medical records
  • Request amendments to your medical records if you believe they are incorrect or incomplete
  • Receive copies of your records within 15 days of your written request
  • Understand the fees associated with copying medical records

You have the right to receive care that meets professional standards of quality.

  • Receive care from qualified healthcare professionals
  • Be informed of the qualifications and credentials of your healthcare providers
  • Receive timely and appropriate care for your condition
  • Be informed of any complications or outcomes that differ from what was expected
  • Have access to emergency care when needed

You have the right to receive information about the costs of your care.

  • Receive a clear explanation of fees and charges before treatment
  • Receive an itemized bill upon request
  • Be informed about payment options and financing available
  • Ask questions about your bill and receive clear answers
  • Be informed of your insurance coverage and out-of-pocket costs

Right to Voice Complaints and Concerns

You have the right to express complaints about your care without fear of retaliation.

  • Voice complaints or concerns about your care
  • Receive a timely response to your concerns
  • Have your complaints reviewed and investigated
  • File complaints with regulatory agencies without fear of discrimination or retaliation

Right to Advance Directives

You have the right to make decisions about end-of-life care and create advance directives.

  • Make decisions regarding your healthcare in advance
  • Create advance directives (living will, healthcare power of attorney)
  • Have your advance directives honored to the extent permitted by law
  • Change or revoke advance directives at any time

Right to Seek a Second Opinion

You have the right to seek a second opinion about your diagnosis or recommended treatment.

  • Obtain a second opinion from another qualified physician
  • Request copies of your medical records to share with another physician
  • Not be penalized or discriminated against for seeking a second opinion

Right to Continuity of Care

You have the right to appropriate follow-up care and referrals when necessary.

  • Receive appropriate follow-up care after procedures
  • Be referred to specialists when medically necessary
  • Receive coordination of care among different healthcare providers
  • Be informed of continuing healthcare requirements following discharge from care

Right to Language Assistance

You have the right to receive assistance if you have limited English proficiency or communication barriers.

  • Request interpretation services at no cost if you have limited English proficiency
  • Receive important documents translated when available
  • Bring a family member or friend to interpret, or request a professional interpreter
  • Receive assistance if you have hearing or visual impairments

Right to Designate a Representative

You have the right to designate someone to make healthcare decisions on your behalf.

  • Designate a family member or friend to receive information about your care
  • Appoint a healthcare power of attorney to make decisions if you are unable
  • Have your designated representative involved in care discussions when appropriate
  • Change your designated representative at any time
