On February 14, 2026, we identified and resolved color contrast issues using a mathematical approach that demonstrates our commitment to both accessibility and design elegance.
Challenge: Our elegant theme's primary color (#9B8B7E) had 3.29:1 contrast on white—failing WCAG AA's 4.5:1 minimum.
Solution: We developed a mathematical algorithm using WCAG luminance formulas to calculate the lightest possible compliant color. In 50 iterations, it found #807368 with 4.60:1 contrast—just 2.2% above minimum, preserving elegance while ensuring compliance.
The visual difference is subtle—maintaining our sophisticated aesthetic—while ensuring readability for users with low vision or in bright lighting conditions.
Because we use CSS variables (var(--theme-primary)) throughout our design system, this single color update in theme.config.ts automatically fixed all 15+ affected elements across 7 pages—demonstrating the power of systematic design architecture.
