How to Correct Breast Asymmetry

How to Correct Breast Asymmetry

breast asymmetry

Type “breast asymmetry”  (uneven breast size) into your Internet browser, and you will be sure to find this phrase paired with negative words like “abnormal,” “problem” and “condition.” In reality, breast asymmetry is a very common and normal occurrence among women.

In fact, most breast surgeons would admit they seldom encounter perfectly symmetrical natural breasts. Breast asymmetry is rarely the result of a disease or genetic deformity, and having uneven breasts causes no physical harm to the body. Why would anyone want to “fix” them?

When Breast Asymmetry Becomes a Problem

Breast asymmetry can become a problem for women when the difference between the two breasts is greater than a cup size. Significant breast asymmetry can make it difficult to find a comfortable or flattering bra, which can lead to limitations in clothing and bathing suit choices. Breast asymmetry becomes a problem - not necessarily when it is obvious to others - but when it is obvious to you, and your confidence has decreased as a result.

Breast Asymmetry Correction in Orange County

How do I "fix" my breast asymmetry? Depending on the desires and needs of the patient, breast asymmetry correction can involve a combination of cosmetic breast surgeries, such as breast lift, breast reduction and breast augmentation. The board-certified plastic surgeons at Finesse Plastic Surgery in Orange County can achieve the even breast appearance you desire with one of the following techniques:

  • Place an implant in the smaller breast.
  • Place different sized implants in both breasts.
  • Remove a small volume from a slightly larger breast as part of a breast lift.
  • Remove a large volume from a significantly larger breast as part of a reduction.
  • Raise one or both nipples into a more pleasing and even position (this is done with both breast lifts and reductions).

Breast Augmentation to Correct Asymmetry

Breast Asymmetry correctionBreast asymmetry can be corrected during breast augmentation if the patient desires to increase their overall breast size. Since saline breast implants are filled after they are inserted into the breasts, our plastic surgeons can easily adjust the amount of saline solution that fills each breast in order to make them more even. Silicone implants that are two different sizes can also be used to correct asymmetry.

If the patient does not want to increase the size of both breasts, an implant can be placed in the smaller breast to make it match the size of the other.

Breast Reduction to Correct Asymmetry

Breast reduction surgery involves excising breast tissue and skin to make the breasts smaller. This can be performed on the larger of the two breasts to correct asymmetry.

Breast Lift to Correct Asymmetry

If the patient has sagging breasts or excess breast skin, a breast lift can be performed along with a reduction or augmentation to correct asymmetry. An incision will be made around the areola and from the bottom of the areola to the breast crease to lift the breasts to a more youthful position.

Even slight breast asymmetry correction can provide a significant boost in confidence for women who choose this procedure. If you are considering breast asymmetry correction in the Orange County area, please schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon from Finesse Plastic Surgery. Elaine's picture

Hello, I am interested in breast reduction on one side to correct asymmetry, & a possible lift as there is sagging on the larger side. There has always been a bit of a difference in size but now after breast feeding for almost two years there is a considerable difference, at least a whole bra size. I would like to get a rough price range to find out if this is something I could even consider/afford.
Thank You
