Breast Augmentation: The "Full C"

Breast Augmentation: The "Full C"

Breast augmentation continues to be one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed in the United States. Approximately 300,000 women undergo breast augmentation surgery each year. Women choose to have the surgery for a variety of reasons, but a common theme for most is the desire to fit better into clothes.

Why do women want a full C?

During a breast augmentation consultation, one topic that will be covered is what cup size a patient wants to be after surgery. One of the most common goals that patients share with us is that they want to be a full C.

Many patients tell us that they don’t want to be a D because they perceive this as a breast size that is just too big. On the other hand, they tell us that they don’t want to go through the procedure and feel that they didn’t get enough of a change. So for many patients, the full C appears to be the perfect balance.

Which implant will give you a full C?

Patients frequently ask us which implant will give them a full C. The answer is that it is different for each patient.  Not all women wear bras the same way. Some patients are smaller breasted, but like the fit of a bra that has some room in it. Other patients fill out their bras and have even more breast tissue coming out of the top. The other issue is that a 350cc implant placed in a patient who is 5’3”and starts with an A cup breast will have a different outcome than the same implant placed in a patient who is 5’10” and starts with a B cup breast.

Choosing implants to achieve a full C

How do we help patients get the “full C” you are looking for? During our consultations, we spend time examining the patient to determine what range of implants will fit. We will get an idea of your current breast volume and consider the bra that you are currently wearing. Based on your current breast size and the size you want to be, we will pick a range of implants that will achieve the change you seek.

Helping us with this process is the Vectra 3D imaging system. This technology allows us to take a 3D photo of you, then show you what you would look like with any implant that you are interested in. The Vectra will also give you an estimate of your current bra size, as well as predict your cup size based on what implants you select.

Breast augmentation remains popular largely because patients have such a high satisfaction rate with the procedure. Most patients tell us they would do the surgery again and would suggest the surgery to a friend who was considering it.
